Dissident Encyclopedia The Biographical Encyclopedia of Resistance and Opposition under Communism from 1945-91 spans the history of opposition in seven different countries, and contains numerous individual biographies and a wide-ranging, easily understandable glossary in addition.
Chronicle of the Berlin Wall This website includes extensive biographies, links and films, original sound files and reports from East and West, as well as a chronological account of the history of the Wall and numerous text sources. It also features an interactive map showing the locations of fatalities along the Wall as well as what remains of it today.
App "The Berlin Wall" The wall separating West Berlin from surrounding East Germany from 1961 to 1989 spanned a total of 156 kilometres. It disappeared just like the state that built it, with only few traces remaining today. The centrepiece of the software are guided tours along the remains of the Wall, as well as monuments and historical sites symbolising the history of German partition. The exploration is complemented by an interactive map. The free app is available in German and English. Teh software is supported by iPhones with iOS 3.0+, iPads with iOS 4.0+, and Android phones with version 2.1+.
Estonian Oral History Portal Kogu Me Lugu The name Kogu Me Lugu translates into "collect our story", "we're collecting the story", or "our entire story". This online oral history portal is a project of the Estonian Institute for Historical Memory. It gives access to video interviews with Estonians who share their experiences with fashism, national socialism, communism and democracy in the 20th century. The site also provides classroom materials. It is available in English, Russian and Estonian.
The Berlin Wall - a multimedia history The homepage of the RBB (Berlin/Brandenburg public radio and TV broadcaster) features a timeline covering events from 1961 to 1990. It introduces many of Berlin’s historical sites and recommends various routes around the city.
Berlin Wall - berlin.de This web portal run by the city of Berlin features historical emphases on specific periods, video clips, a list of memorials related to the Berlin Wall in the city, and information on a Wall walking route through the German capital.
Gulag - Many days, many lives This virtual exhibition was created by the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University and introduces the reader to the history of the Soviet Union's vast system of forced labour camps, featuring photographs, biographies and expert blogs. The website offers resources for teachers that were funded by the Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Eastern Germany.
Sound Archives – European Memories of the Gulag More than 20 witnesses were interviewed for this platform, videos of which can be viewed online. The majority are in the original language, while some are dubbed into English or subtitled. The online exhibition also features related documents and objects belonging to former GULag inmates. The website itself is available in French, English, Russian and Polish.
Memory of Nations This is an extensive collection of the witnesses' memories compiled by various individuals, non-profit organisations, educational institutions, governmental and semi-governmental agencies across Europe who intend to share, compare, evaluate, and discuss their recordings, texts, photographs, and archival documents. The aim is to make witnesses' memories publicly accessible, as all have given their approval to use their accounts to examine modern history.
