Profile
One only truly understands what freedom means when it is absent. Particularly, if one has the courage to reach for that freedom and surrender to its uncertainties. Olaf Hintze has experienced both: growing up in the GDR, he could sense what he was missing. And he had the courage to leave his country. At the time, he was 25, and escaping the country still meant risking one’s life. No one could have predicted that the Berlin Wall would come tumbling down just a few weeks later – after having been steadily eroded by people like him.
Olaf Hintze berichtet über sein Leben in der DDR und seine Flucht.
